Egg Carving and Tool Suppliers

If you are looking for quality ostrich egg shells, please contact this breeder in Canada. I guarantee you, you will get not only high quality ostrich eggshells but also reasonably priced and depending where you live, shipping might be free. Ostrich egg shells are often not of good quality, especially if imported from Africa. The quality of an ostrich egg shells depends on what food and food supplements are given to those finiky birds. African egg shells are usually poor in quality because of this. Poor in quality means having often hair line cracks, are thin and brittle.

If you are looking for excellent burs I can only recommend one person I trust in this and that is Ron Cheruka. He has years of experience and knows what burs are good and which are not.

Ron also carries egg stands and other egg carving supplies you might be looking for.

NSK Presto

My recommended carving tool is the NSK Presto made by Brasseler

Brasseler USA

You can find this tool on Ebay where various dealers are offering this tool and at good prices too or you can go directly to Brasseler and talk to a sales man. Don't take his first price offer. I talked the sales man down about 75 dollars because I had been told that I could get it at that price.

Air Cleaner

Yes you do need something that keeps the dust out of your lungs while you are working on carving eggshells.

I use and air cleaner instead of a dust box because it gives me more room to move and is not as restraining as a box would be. Believe me, I was almost screaming in pain after sitting for a couple of hours with my hands stuck in a dust box and not being able to rest my elbows or more while working. Air cleaners are just as save and efficient as dust boxes and much cheaper too. They hardly make much noise either. Much less than a vacuum sweeper would. You can listen to music while it's running. Just rinse the filter out with water after about 9 hours of use and reuse it the next day. You can also buy an extra set of filters and exchange them, one washed and drying, the other ready to go.
